In today’s day and age of social media, if you’re a high profile athlete, your deepest, darkest secret is only a tweet away from someone exposing you, and everyone knowing it. LeBron James, Johnny Manziel, Colin Kaepernick, you name it – they mess up just one bit – and it’s posted online, aired by TMZ, and in seconds, its gone viral. But back in the day, pre social media, you could just about get away with murder and nobody know it. So to write an article about the craziest sports stories that happened in the past decade would be kind of pointless as you’ve probably heard it already. But pro-sports, for some leagues, is over 100 years old. That’s a whole century full of very crazy, yet very untold stories. So if watching old film and highlights just ain’t cutting it for you and you crave some more juicy gossip, then we’re about to satiate you.

O.J. Bronco Chase

Remember the O.J. Simpson white Ford Bronco police chase that was caught on live TV back in 1994? Remember how the police wanted to bring O.J. in for questioning regarding the death of his ex-wife and new boyfriend? Remember how the chase was a really really slow speed chase on the LA freeway for some odd reason? Well apparently the reason for the slowness is now known, but no less odd, as O.J. (who was holding a gun to the drivers’s head) told him to slow down because – and get this – he wanted to hear the end of the Knicks-Rockets Game 5 of the NBA playoffs on the radio before the cops took him in. Wow, just wow!

Shaq’s One-Hit Wonder

Back when Shaquille O’Neal was a top prospect at LSU, he had his fair share of challengers on the court – and off. When you’re 7’1”, some people will try to get a rep by trying to beat you up. And this was the case for one such LSU football player who tried to make a name for himself by challenging Shaq to a fight! Needless to say, the overly ambitious player lost – in a rather embarrassing way no less. When he confronted Shaq, squaring up to him, Shaq simply swung his arm like a hammer and came down on the top of the football’ers head with a closed fist, knocking him out instantly.

Lawrence Taylor’s Glass Eating

Lawrence Taylor may go down as not only one of the best NFL players, but also its craziest. Best known for his highlight where he snaps quarterback Joe Theismann’s leg in half, back in college when he played for North Carolina, Lawrence would intimidate his fellow teammates by downing a beer, smashing the bottle, and literally eating the broken shards of glass! Can you imagine a more “don’t mess with me” moment than this?

It’s Never Tebow Time

Remember Tim Tebow? You know, the NFL’er with the illustrious career at Florida, then a first round draft pick by the Denver Broncos. Well If you’re the crazed fan who got a tattoo of him sketched as a centaur on your thigh, then you know what we’re talking about. Apparently, Tim’s season saving and making the playoffs is enough to get him immortalized as a poorly drawn mythical beast on someone’s body, because Broncos fan Juan Contreras and his friend Josh Lucero had a bet that if Tebow become the Bronco’s starting quarterback in 2011 and managed to win more than games, then Contreras would get the centaur tattoo. And well, as history shows, Josh won that bet, and Juan ended up getting one of the ugliest tattoos in body-ink history.

No Sex For Iron Mike

Back when Iron Mike Tyson was still working his way to the top of the boxing world, under the advice of his trainer, Cus d’amato (which whom he listened to everything) decided to abstain from sex for FIVE years until he became champ. Tyson believed the rumor (which is scientifically untrue) that having sex before a fight would make you a weaker boxer. It appears it only turns you into a rapist only years later. SHM.

Tyson Wanted To Fight A Gorilla

When it comes to crazy, just one Mike Tyson story isn’t enough. And perhaps, this one takes the cake. When he was married to Robin Givens, while on a trip to the zoo, Mike got the brilliant idea to challenge a Gorilla to a fight! Yes, you read that right, Mike offered a zookeeper $10,000 if he’d let him into the Gorilla’s enclosure so he could go at the alpha male that was bullying the rest of the tribe. Being of sounder mind than Mike, the zookeeper refused, thankfully, for as tough as Mike was, he, nor anyone can beat up a pissed-off 500lbs silverback gorilla.

Brendan Shanahan and Rick Vaive

Former NHL tough guy, Brendan Shanahan was once an up and coming ice enforcer, when he found himself on the same rink as his idol, Rick Vaive in 1983. Star-struck, Brendan went into the locker room after to get Vaive’s autograph, only to come away disappointed as Vaive dismissed him quite rudely. Little did Vaive know that Shanahan would eventually make the NHL for years later. And during their first game against each other, Shanahan lined up against Vaive, and as soon as the puck was dropped, he dropped his gloves and began to beat Vaive like a drum. Dumbfounded by the whole thing, Vaive was later informed by a teammate that Shanahan was simply a disgruntled fan that he’d brushed off when asked for an autograph just a couple of years prior.

Tonya Harding Attacks

Back during the 1994 U.S. Figure Skating Championship, it was Tonya Harding competing against the darling of the sport, Nancy Kerrigan for the top spot in the Olympics. Well rather than Tonya beating Nancy fair and square – she hired someone to break Nancy’s leg with a tire iron just as she was entering the arena to compete instead! Talk about a WTF moment, immediately after, Tonya Harding became sports most hated person ever.

Michael Jordan’s Dad

Back in July 23, 1993, Michael Jordan’s father – James Jordan – was found dead on the roadside in his car. His murder remains a mystery until today. But what is known is the series of events that proceeded after; Michael Jordan announcing his retirement (right in the midst of his prime no less), taking up baseball, then making his return to the NBA a season and a half later. Michael Jordan’s reasoning was that he lost his motivation to play the game. But there’s another story floating around that makes more sense of this, the craziest turn of events in NBA history. As rumor has it, Michael Jordan (who’s known for having serious gambling issues), was betting extremely heavy at the time. But given his stature as the greatest basketball player of all-time – along with a huge ego – if he made a bet and won, his attitude was “I’m Michael Jordan – pay up.” But if he lost, it was “I’m Michael Jordan – fuck off!” Well apparently he told the wrong person to fuck off one day, a person with mob ties, and well, the rest is self-explanatory. It appears that Michael Jordan did not retire, but was forced out of the league, which, in a 1994 interview where Michael was asked if he’d return, he said, “I’ll come back if the fans want me back, if the Bulls will have me back, if commissioner David Stern will allow me back…” What? Huh? If David Stern will allow the most popular player ever to come back? Looks like the rumor is true – that Michael Jordan is responsible for his own father’s death.
